Ovivo update their plans, now get more for £0 per month

You lot are great, so I’m having a good ‘ole dig around for some bargain deals at the moment. Christmas seems to be the “crazy time” where we spend huge chunks of money, so I’m on a mission to get some cheap deals.

Ovivo are an MVNO using the Vodafone network and, as we’ve shown before, they charge a big fat ..

..per month. Yes, nothing. Mental huh? How does that work?

Well, they get a bit of money back by showing you an advert every now and then when you’re using mobile data. Their Freedom 0 plan now has more call-time added – 200 minutes per month. This is up from 150 minutes, and 200 minutes is around 3 an a bit hours – enough for many. There’s also 300 texts and 500MB of data.

If you want a bit more, you can get the same amount of calls and texts, but 1GB of data for a fiver a month. There’s a couple of other tariffs for £10 and £20 respectively (see more on those below), which adds more call time and texts.

There’s no contracts or ties to worry about, but you do need to spend a bit for the SIM itself. For example, the “Freedom 0? plan you’ll need to spend £20 for the SIM, and Ovivo will stick in £15 of credit for you. Not bad eh? More details emerge on Google’s plans for its mystery barges

Although Google’s mysterious barges right now look like large floating metal slabs, the company envisions eventually turning them into “unprecedented artistic structures” that will have around a dozen “fish fin” sails and will float majestically through city harbors. SFGate has uncovered some documents filed with the city of San Francisco that explain how the Google barges will be “temporary technology exhibit spaces” that will help drive foot traffic to the city’s waterfront area. Google even envisions the barges as being sort of metaphysical spaces that will inspire “conversation about how everything is connected — shorebirds, me, you, the sea, the fog and much more.” An artist’s rendering of what the magical barges will look like when completed follows below.

Microsoft plans single app store for both Windows 8 and Windows Phone

This could be just the thing that Microsoft needs to reignite developer interest in Windows Phone: A common app store for its multiple platforms. Unnamed sources tell The Verge that Microsoft has been testing out a single app store for both Windows 8 apps and Windows Phone 8 apps that will offer a common platform for developers to sell their software. Microsoft is planning to launch the store with the release of Windows Phone 8.1 and with a special update to Windows 8.1 in the first half of 2014. Although we still don’t know how the combined app store will work, The Verge speculates that “it’s possible that Microsoft may take an approach that’s similar to Apple’s App Store, where tablet specific apps don’t run on the phone, but phone apps scale to run on a tablet.”

HTC still has no plans to oust CEO, despite struggles

HTC has publicly denied a new round of rumors suggesting that the company is planning to oust chief executive Peter Chou as it continues to struggle. Chatter that HTC’s CEO might soon be forced out has popped up a few times, but HTC was quick to squash the most recent rumors. Chou “has done a great job” and HTC has no plans to remove him from his current post, HTC chairwoman Cher Wang told Economic Daily News. She continued, noting that HTC has “many innovative products and will continue to work to introduce our excellent products to everyone in the world.” Shares of HTC have fallen more than 45% through the first eight months of the year and the company recently reported unaudited August 2013 revenue that dropped 47% compared to the same month last year.
